Red Day my revolutionary socialist band

I chose the name Galaxia for a band that I set up in Manchester in June 2005, just before the G8 summit in Gleneagles (Scotland), after the very left wing ending at the end of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series. Because my brother Sean was and still is (overall but like everyone else not entirely) on the side of big business in the conspiratorial organisations underneath the surface of society, he used the same name for a computer game where you shoot aliens (which you can try out by following instructions on my page on computer games). I reused the name for a much more positive project!

The Galaxia website (www.galaxiamusic.org) contains a lot of information about that band, recordings made by its original line-up in Manchester in June 2005 (The Revolution Starts Now! and Do They Know It’s G8 Time?) and lyrics of many other songs that I have written subsequently. My history of the band and current views on who I want in it, plus a synopsis of the Foundation series, can be found on the Galaxia history page. I also set up a Galaxia MySpace page, on which I added a hilarious dance mix in June 2008 of The Revolution Starts Now!, produced by an activist (and former DJ) who I met at the 2005 Earth First! Gathering and calls himself Steve the Pro.

Due to my inability to get a band together before the Scottish parliamentary elections in May 2007, I performed some Galaxia songs as unaccompanied musical poetry and put the recordings on the musical poetry page of this website. I did further musical poetry recordings, and added them to that page, in December 2007.

I later decided that due to me not being in favour of a society as extreme as Galaxia (on the earth anyway), Red Day (like Green Day but explicitly socialist) would be a better name for a band. I suggested this name to other members of a new band that I have performed with, based in Glasgow, since January 2008, and we settled on that name.

In June 2008, I finally went on-line with new Red Day recordings, the most important of which is 9/11 Inside Job, and set up the Red Day website (www.red-day.net). I also created pages for this band on various social networking sites; see the Social Networking page on the Red Day website for details.
