Steve Wallis’ musical poem:

Fairground Attraction

Written by Steve Wallis, 17/9/2008

Militant was a Labour Party faction
We were serious about action
For some members, I had attraction
From the cause, it was a distraction

It was good to go to the fair
With a woman who had dark hair
To kiss her, I didn’t dare
But we were a lovestruck pair

Every sight and every sound
At the fairground
She set my heart alight
I was high as a kite

Later we campaigned against the far right
And tried to unite black and white

Our minds all have flaws
Mine sometimes puts people ahead of the cause
The struggle I sometimes pause
Hopefully not leading to more wars

I have a female-type mind
I am very kind
Are we natural or designed?
And am I colourblind?

There’s lots of things we do not know
But we will win – capitalism will go!

I have recorded this musical poem in MP3 format.
