If you don’t trust me not to give your computer a virus, you can browse this website without allowing the active content. The only difference is that the buttons below would not be highlighted when the cursor moves over them.
I have included a list of my other websites below. Note that there is another list of them, with fuller descriptions and links to access statistics, at the end of my home page.
Political parties/organisations in Britain:
Respect: the Unity Coalition – An even broader party, that operates in England and Wales, and includes socialism as one of its aims but welcomes people joining who don’t regard themselves as socialists. It is now nearly entirely composed of members of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) and their allies. The SWP is now lukewarm in their support for Solidarity, so they may attempt to build this Respect north of the border in the future, particularly if Tommy Sheridan gets convicted of perjury in his defamation trial, which he has been charged with.
Respect Renewal – Another very broad party, that split from the original Respect in November 2007, led by George Galloway MP and involving most of the Muslims (including small businessmen) who were in the other Respect. They may also call themselves “The Respect Party” (for which they have reserved an internet domain name).
Forward Wales – A broad party based in Wales (that may not still exist).
Plaid Cymru – A mainstream Welsh nationalist party, currently in coalition with Labour in the Welsh Assembly, that sometimes describes itself as socialist.
Socialist Labour Party – A very small party led by Arthur Scargill, President of the National Union of Mineworkers, that seemed to have disappeared until it put forwards lists for all regions in elections to the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly. In my view, they were acting as deliberate spoilers to split the socialist vote (to a greater extent than would otherwise be the case).
Green Party – An environmental party, which currently has two members of the European Parliament as well as a number of councillors.
Scottish Green Party – A party separate from (but friendly towards) the Green Party, which is in favour of an independent Scotland. It currently has two members of the Scottish Parliament.
Socialist Workers Party (SWP) – the largest revolutionary socialist party in Britain (particularly England). In my opinion, its leadership is dominated by infiltrators who are trying to prevent a socialist revolution. It does not stand in elections under its own name, but is involved in Respect: the Unity Coalition and Solidarity.
Socialist Party – formerly known as the Militant Tendency and then Militant Labour, which stands in elections as “Socialist Alternative” due to the fact that a tiny and insignificant party exists, known as the Socialist Party of Great Britain
Democratic Socialist Alliance – a small organisation, formed out of the Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform, that I hoped was going to become a similar organisation to the SSP, albeit more overtly revolutionary, but that has drifted towards a Marxist agenda
Democratic Left – formerly known as the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB); they changed their name after the collapse of “communism” in the USSR and Eastern Europe and don’t appear to have a website
Communist Party of Britain – a split-off from the original CPGB, linked to the Morning Star newspaper
(Provisional Central Committee of the) Communist Party of Great Britain – formerly a group that operated within the original CPGB known as “The Leninist”; its Weekly Worker newspaper contains a lot of information about goings on within the British left (some of it more accurate than others)
Revolutionary Communist Group – they produce a newspaper called Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! and concentrate on the issue of freedom for Palestine
New Labour (The Labour Party) – currently forming the government of the UK
Liberal Democrats (LibDems) – a party that has traditionally positioned itself between Labour and the Tories, and that has often formed coalitions with either in local government, but has tended to be more left-wing than Labour in recent years, particularly on issues of civil liberties and war
Tories (The Conservative and Unionist Party) – currently the main opposition party
Scottish National Party – a party to the left of the three mainstream British parties (Labour, the LibDems and the Tories) on most issues, that is in favour of Scottish independence and is currently in power in the Scottish parliament
