A list of anti-ID cards discussion lists

Compiled by Steve Wallis

I strongly encourage you to join or browse the archive of my anti-ID cards discussion list (group) on the internet by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anti-id-cards. You can also join the mailing list by sending an email to anti-id-cards-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Note that I send messages on issues other than ID cards to this list, since most opponents of ID cards are left-wingers and they are likely to be interested in those issues as well.

There is also a very low volume anti-ID cards list at Yahoo! Groups (the main list provider in the world) called Optional_Identity_UK which says it is for “general discussion, planning, organization and chat relating to the campaign against the introduction of compulsory ID cards in the UK”. You may join or browse the archive of it on the internet by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Optional_Identity_UK. You can also join the mailing list by sending an email to Optional_Identity_UK-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. [Note that there are two underline characters, not spaces, in that URL and email address.]

Note that you can browse and/or search the archives of both lists mentioned above.

The mailing list with most anti-ID cards activists on it is probably the Defy-ID mailing list. It operates via an ‘independent’ mailing list provider, which anarchists tend to prefer – they heard that Yahoo! Groups had handed over email addresses to the secret to make that a minor problem. Other list providers, such as the one used by “Defy-ID” have less facilities – that one does not have an archive or specify whether the adiministrator (an anarchist called Nathan) needs to approve people before they can join (which he now does but didn’t used to) or whether he needs to approve each message (which he does not). I had a serious personal disagreement with him in January 2003 so he kicked me off the list and tried to stop me from rejoining by changing the list options. However, I have used pseudonyms to get back on again and have forwarded the most important messages from that list to mine, when I've had time; I'll check my inboxes soon and start forwarding messages to my list again. If you want to join the Defy-ID mailing list, send an email to list-subscribe@defy-id.org.uk

NO2ID also has a mailing list, but discussions cannot take place on that list, since only a leader of that organisation can send messages out. Nevertheless, it is a good source of information.
